Pulsic to help drive greater custom design tool interoperability

Pulsic publishes recommendations for OpenAccess Users

SAN JOSE, CALIF., May 13, 2010 — A number of new efforts aimed at increased interoperability in custom design automation (CDA®) were announced today by Pulsic. To actively drive the development of more industry standards directly applicable to the custom design segment, Pulsic has joined the Si2 Open PDK Coalition, in addition to its active involvement in the Si2 OpenAccess Coalition. A new paper on maximizing interoperability using OpenAccess and migration pitfalls and best practices is now available from Pulsic at www.pulsic.com. Pulsic is also a member of interoperability programs from the leading EDA companies, including Cadence Design Systems’ Connections and Mentor OpenDoor.

In custom design, hand-crafted quality remains the top priority. But at the advanced manufacturing process nodes of 45nm and below, the combination of size, hierarchy and complexity makes hand-crafted, manual design impractical and inefficient, and CDA becomes essential. Custom design automation tools must deliver not only hand-crafted quality, but must be easily integrated into existing design environments without the need for a large CAD department. Thus, increasingly powerful CDA tools need to be fully interoperable with all the design environments.

“Pulsic has a strong reputation for customer-driven solutions, and their expanded efforts in interoperability come at an important time as their customers struggle with the cost of integration,” said Gary Smith, chief analyst at GarySmith EDA, a leading provider of market intelligence and advisory services for the global electronic design automation (EDA), electronic system level (ESL) design, and related technology markets. “The custom design automation market segment will benefit from greater interoperability and Pulsic’s active involvement in these programs will help facilitate the development of new ideas and solutions among its members.”

“Through successful collaboration, we will be able to increase interoperability and expand adoption of custom design automation,” stated Ken Roberts, CEO of Pulsic. “Our extensive customer experience has shown that a focused investment is needed to integrate new tools into a custom design environment, and we are investing in industry-wide efforts like OpenAccess that facilitate customer-driven collaboration to increase productivity and grow the overall custom design automation market segment.”

Pulsic will be demonstrating custom design automation solutions using OpenAccess in the Si2 booth at the 47th Design Automation Conference (DAC) at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, Calif. DAC is the world’s leading technical conference and tradeshow covering the latest trends in electronic design and design automation, and will be held June 13-18. Pulsic demonstrations will take place June 14-16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Si2 Booth #502 and in the Pulsic Booth #468 June 14-16 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
