Pulsic Names Buno Pati to its Board of Directors
Founder, CEO of Numerical Technologies Brings Expertise Unmatched in the Industry
Bristol, UK – April 14, 2005 – Y.C. Buno Pati today was named to the board of directors of Pulsic Ltd., the electronic design automation (EDA) company that delivers shape-based, integrated circuit (IC) physical design solutions for mixed-signal, memory and custom digital designs.
He joins a board that includes: Pulsic’s Ken Roberts, chief executive officer (CEO) and Mark Williams, founder and chief operating officer (COO); Neil Rimer, of Index Ventures; Monish Suri from Prime Technology Ventures; and veteran EDA investor Wai Yan (William) Ho.
“Pulsic has developed unique software that is being deployed for the most complex chip designs,” remarks Dr. Pati. “I am very excited about working with Ken and his team. Pulsic is helping leading semiconductor players tackle difficult design challenges and is getting real traction in the marketplace.”
Dr. Pati was founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of Numerical Technologies, acquired by Synopsys Inc. (Nasdaq: SNPS) in 2003. Dr. Pati founded Numerical Technologies in 1995 and served as its President and CEO until 2002. He led Numerical from the initial development phases, through its successful initial public offering in 2000, and a number of successful acquisitions. He has led product development, marketing and sales for software and technology products that span the design-to-silicon spectrum, covering the semiconductor manufacturing, photomask and IC design markets.
Before co-founding Numerical, Dr. Pati served as assistant professor of electrical engineering and computer science at Harvard University. Previously, he led a research group at Stanford University that developed the original technology for Numerical. Dr. Pati serves on the Board of Directors for several private companies, and the Board of Visitors of the University of Maryland’s Clark School of Engineering. Dr. Pati received a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Maryland at College Park.
“Buno Pati is a welcome addition to our board,” notes Ken Roberts, Pulsic’s CEO. “His expertise, knowledge of the market and insights are unmatched in the industry, and we expect his contribution to Pulsic to be extraordinary.”
Pulsic’s Lyric Physical Design Framework offers detailed floorplanning, standard cell placement, interactive editing and automatic routing. Its unified shape-based design system has achieved significant design wins in the mixed signal, memory and custom digital market segments in the U.S., Europe and Asia by enabling layout designers to achieve high productivity and reduce die sizes by up to 30%, particularly as process geometries shrink.
